Remember the band motto, " All for one, one for all"
A band is never just about 1 person, its abt a group of people, working hard for their dreams, their goals.
One may think "4 yrs only what, what's there to work so hard for in the band?"
I can tell u from an alumni's point of view, this 4 yrs are the crucial time that will set a definite pathway for ur life and how u grow up to be a person in the future. Before u know it, the 4 yrs will just fly past u..
Till today I've not regretted joining DMB in 1995 (yes u can guess my age haha...)
The sense of belonging will definitely be with u when u leave sch or DMB. Imagine few yrs down and u hear DMB getting top 10 band award in Singapore (wish very very very hard then maybe got chance...), won't u have this special happiness and feeling proud, "Hey I'm from DMB, I'm so proud its top 10 band in Singapore!"
Each and everyone plays an equally important role in making the band sound good. Not just the conductor, the teachers, ur seniors, alumnis, or tutors.
Imagine when the year Mr Lee took us, if the seniors didn't work hard, there's no way that DMB would have achieved results.
Yes, there may be times u'll wana skip band on pretext of homework, but think abt it b4 u skip band next time. Doesn't ur friends, section-mates, juniors have homework too? And if u know there's band on Sat try not to arrange anything on Sat. Minus away public holidays and exams/test periods where there's no band prac, out of 52 Sats I think u'll only have abt 25 Sats a year for ur band practices. Think twice b4 skipping band on Sats.
Pls work hard for band n equally for ur STUDIES so tat the principal won't be able to find fault with the band!
The Nation Band Comp is abt 2 weeks away and I hope u guys can really work hard and perform miracles like ur seniors did. No matter what the sch teachers wana term the band as, do ur best and prove them wrong!!!
DMB is a place of music making and friendship, not a place for training funeral bands. Treasure the time spent in DMB, may it be good or bad (oh my, how can I forget the times we did abt 200 plus push-ups in 1998, all thanks to Mr Yeo!!!)
